Based in San Francisco and Sydney, OE Strategy has been operating since 2013.
But our history and experience goes back to the early 1980s.

    Susan J. Wolfe

    FOUNDER & PRINCIPAL

In her four decades in the field, there's probably no user experience design challenge that Susan hasn't seen. In both San Francisco and Sydney, she has practiced UX design, mentored global project teams, introduced UX design practices and cultures into organizations, and trained the next generation of practitioners with direct responsibility for launching the careers of more than 550 UX professionals.

Susan has founded, extended, and run consultancies and, in years past, established and managed in-house UX teams within software, hardware, and services companies in Silicon Valley. She has a proven track-record of partnering with clients to design and implement practical strategies that work in the real world, not just in theory. This applies equally to her teaching approach and learning objectives.

Throughout her career, Susan has been actively involved in organizing and leading industry associations and events. She also gives back to the community through 1:1 mentoring.

Over time, Susan has become increasingly focused on using UX design for social good – not merely focusing on the result, but equally on how we get there and why we’re even going there.

    Richard Anderson

    FOUNDER (DECEASED)

Much of Richard’s ethos underpins OE Strategy’s focus and approach. Throughout his career, Richard worked to extend the reach, role, and nature of human-centered design to better address social and environmental issues and enable others (including businesses) to do so.

Richard taught, lead / facilitated workshops, gave talks, moderated panels, conducted interviews on stage, organized events, advised and mentored, wrote, and did research / design / strategy projects. Richard was the 2007 recipient of the SIGCHI Lifetime Service Award, presented to individuals who have extended service and contribution to the growth and success of our profession and the organization. He also served as co-Editor-in-Chief of interactions magazine from 2008-10.

Later in his career, triggered by personal experiences, Richard’s areas of greatest passion included fixing our broken healthcare system, ending homelessness, and increasing diversity & inclusion in the workplace (particularly via eliminating ageism). These are all very worthy of substantial attention - and topics that OE Strategy will continue to pursue.

A prolific writer, many of Richard’s ideas can be found on his blog or published on Medium.
